Aintree Grand National 2019

Arena was once again selected as structures and furniture supplier for another major race meeting hosted by The Jockey Club, The Grand National at Aintree from 4 to 6 April 2019.

Having worked closely with The Jockey Club for more than 35 years, Arena has provided a variety of structures, seating and furniture for the various events; Epsom Derby, Newmarket and The Festival at Cheltenham – so they are no strangers to the race day run of events and their exacting requirements.

As well as supplying and building the temporary structures for the three-day event, Arena has delivered temporary grandstands, staircases, viewing platforms and a range of furniture for the hospitality suites, food and beverage outlets, the parade ring, behind the scenes areas for owners and jockeys, and perhaps the most highly regarded section of all, the Queen Mother Stand.

The prestigious event attracts thousands of racegoers each year for racing, music, food, and entertainment, with millions more across the globe tuning in from home, so the pressure is always on for suppliers to get it right.

Chris Morris, recently appointed CEO for Arena UK & Europe, said: “The seating, structures, and furniture were delivered safely and on schedule which is crucial for such a long-running event with the Grand National entering its 172nd staging at Aintree this year.

“A key client benefit of working with Arena is having multiple event elements delivered and installed by one company, and with over 1,000 items of furniture alone, it demonstrates the sheer scale and magnitude of this event. Teams working on site who get along and work well together can be the difference between a successful event and a complete disaster. Our clients are in safe hands with Arena, we have years of experience working on complex events across multiple product and service offerings and always deliver the Arena Standard unequivocally.”

Aintree’s Crabbie’s Grand National 2016

Arena Group was pivotal in supporting The Jockey Club’s transformation of the World-famous Aintree Racecourse for the 2016 Crabbie’s Grand National with temporary event seating and structures. David Mullins trained Rule the World won everyone’s hearts and the £1million prize money when The Grand National became the nine year olds first steeplechase victory.Carl Pastor, The Jockey Club’s operations director, states:

The introduction of new features such as the Arena Deck viewing area in front of The Chair Pavilion and the double decker Owners and Trainers hospitality facility this year were great examples of the fantastic advances in the experience we were able to offer our guests.”

Arena Group’s Aintree installation came hot on the heels of a record breaking installation at Cheltenham Festival for The Jockey Club, extending improvements in the facilities at both courses.

Arena Structures installed 7,750 sqm of temporary structures to create diverse event venues with bespoke interior designs and fit out to compliment the permanent venues. The Jockey Club’s double decker Amberleigh House benefitted from an interior make-over with a range of high quality hospitality suites, while a new curved roof double decker increased the Owners and Trainers Pavilion capacity and was a great success, with guests over-looking the parade ring. Safecontractor accreditation will enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.

Safecontractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to food manufacture, property, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of contracted services.

John Kinge, technical director of Safecontractor said, “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place.”

“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Spaceworks & Well Dressed Tables has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.

Safecontractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, whilst working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process.”

Under the Safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website.

Client-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

Over 210 major, nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
